Emergency in Greece - please help us respond total raised so far: £94855.61

About this campaign

ALL DONATIONS UP TO THE VALUE OF $100K / £78K WERE DOUBLED BY THE GENEROSITY OF A PRIVATE MATCH-FUNDING DONOR. NEW DONATIONS DON'T COUNT DOUBLE, BUT THEY WILL MAKE AN INCREDIBLE DIFFERENCE TO REFUGEES IN GREECE. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We face a new emergency in Greece. The highest ever number of refugees are currently trapped on the islands. Now, with Turkey opening its borders, the last few days have seen over a thousand new arrivals. There is the potential for many more.

We are doing all we can to respond by supporting desperately-needed aid and services, and are preparing to do more.

Extreme overcrowding, lack of investment in services and little prospect of continuing their journeys is leading to crushing destitution and hopelessness on the Aegean islands.

Alongside this, while the majority of locals have been welcoming, asylum seekers and volunteers are facing an increase in far right intimidation and attacks. Developments in the last week have only made things worse.

In these extremely challenging conditions, the incredible projects we support across Greece will continue to do their best to provide the help our governments should be:

- Giving tents, sleeping bags, clothing and nappies to people arriving with nothing.

- Ensuring vulnerable people - like babies and pregnant women - get decent food.

- Providing community spaces where people can be safe and cared for.

If you can, please help us continue providing these vital services and ensure that together we can respond to this situation as it develops.
